Mark Zuckerberg: Road to succes

  • Facebook Social Icon

2015 was a good year for the co-founder of Facebook, Mark Zuckerberg. Very good. His stocks rose with 35 percent, and that made him the billionaire with the highest rising stocks in 2015. He got a baby with his wife, and that resulted in him giving 99 percent of his Facebook stocks to charity. The app he bought in 2014, WhatsApp, rounded 1 billion users. It seems like he has no intent to stop succeeding.

His early years

Mark Elliot Zuckerberg was born on May 14, 1984, in White Plains, New York. He grew up in a well-educated family with a lot of money. He has 3 sisters, Donna, Arielle and Randi. Mark was a very clever child, and he had a big interest for computers. He wasn’t the typical gamer but he was more in to making the computer  games and programs. When he was 12 he made a program called “Zucknet”, which could help people to easily communicate with each other. He also created games but that was more like a hobby. He went to the admired school Philips Exeter Academy, and became good at fencing. He created a music software called Synapse, and it was so good that he got offers from Microsoft, but declined. When he declined the offer, his parents got very mad at him, because it was a lot of money.

Harvard University and the idea

When he was done on Exeter, he enrolled at Harvard University which is one of the best universities in the world. He created many programs and on especially one he got a lot of credit for. The program was Facematch and it was like a dating site for the Harvard pupils. The teachers on Harvard banned the program because they meant it wasn’t a morally good idea. With a couple of friends he started to brainstorm about a new social media. His friends: Dustin Moskovitz, Chris Hughes and Eduardo Saverin created a site called “The Facebook.” It was like a site where you could poste pictures and text and get respond. After Zuckerbergs sophomore year, he dropped out of Harvard to focus on Facebook. At the start of 2005 over 1 million people used the social network.

The Cameron twins

Mark Zuckerberg was unstoppable in the start of 2006, where his business was going fantastic and Facebook had rounded 6 million users. He had declined a billion offer from Yahoo, and that was really a tough thing to do. He really believed in his stuff and had the balls to turn a billion offer down. It was a revolution. No one could even imagine a person turning so much money down. But then the Cameron twins came. Back in 2003 the Cameron twins started a social network with was much alike Facebook called Harvard Connection. They claimed that Zuckerberg had stolen their idea. Some lawyers saw some disturbing messages from Zuckerberg to the Cameron twins, and they decided that Zuckerberg had stolen their idea. Mark Zuckerberg should pay 65 million dollars but the case went on to late 2011.

Flying on golden wings

In 2010 he got his first big confirmation that he was very special, when he won the Person Of The Year award. He did also beat Steve Jobs on Forbes list of the richest people in the world, where he landed on number 35 with his net worth on 6,9 billion dollars. Later in 2010 he gave 100 million dollars to save the Newark Public School system in New Jersey. In 2012 Mark Zuckerberg bought the social media Instagram and it was a big success. In May 2012 he got married with his longtime girlfriend Chan. Then 3 years later, in 2015, he got a daughter, Max. They proclaimed that they would give 99 percent of their stock to charity, around 45 billion dollars. One of the things he gave money to was a combination of universities. Six different universities will get 600 million dollars over the next 10 years. There is no sign that Mark Zuckerberg’s success will stop.

When the youngest billionaire in the world is going out, he is not wearing suits but ordinary hoodies and T-shirts. Meet one of the most successful entrepreneurs in the history and hear the difficulties about being Mark Zuckerberg.
